The material of the Loop Living Cocoon™ is hydrophobic, making it perfectly suitable for a wake on a mobile mortuary refrigerator or a funeral in the rain. Only after burial, when the mycelium is in prolonged contact with the soil and groundwater, the Loop Living Cocoon™ starts to grow again.
Mycelium consists of thousands of fibres that are connected in a dense network. The many interconnections make dried mycelium a particularly light and sturdy material that can be used to grow products. Since each Loop Living Cocoon™ is a unique organism, every individual coffin is tested on quality and strength with a 200kg weight. Doing so, we continue to guarantee the quality of the Loop Living Cocoon™ that has already been used in hundreds of funerals.
However unique the enriching properties of the Loop Living Cocoon™ may be, the experience of using the coffin for a funeral is similar to conventional coffins. The Loop Living Cocoon™ is 100% natural, so handle the coffin gently, just as you treat nature. Be particularly careful at the corners and edges of the coffin. Watch the instruction video at the top of this page to learn more about working with the Loop Living Cocoon™ during a funeral.
The hydrophobic property of the dried mycelium makes the Loop Living Cocoon™ perfectly suitable for a wake on a mobile mortuary refrigerator or storage in the cold chamber.
Carrying the Loop Living Cocoon™ can be done with the six jute handles attached to the coffin or by shouldering. During the burial, the Loop Living Cocoon™ can be lowered with a mechanical lift system, as well as with ropes.
The colour and soft appearance of the Loop Living Cocoon™ are the results of the natural properties of mycelium. This unique appearance is therefore not produced in different colours. The beautiful white canvas of the Loop Living Cocoon™ does allow for personal decoration with loved ones, which is possible with our biodegradable additional organic paint kit.
